What do you make of this article? While it's true that speaking Standard English is important (surely you don't believe that people will take you seriously if you punctuate every thought and idea with a Singlish lah/meh/hor/wor), it's not inaccurate to say that Singlish does serve its purpose (we feel closer right or not?).
So how do we make certain that what we enjoy doesn't 'harm' us? We say, learn the 'grammar rules' of Singlish (really, it's as easy as ABC), and learn how you can code-switch when the situation calls for either Standard English or Singlish.
